Connections #029 - Undocumented Ways To Use LinkedIn
Dave Millman is an MIT graduate and former Director of Marketing at IBM. His present role is Vice President of Marketing at CiraNova, a software company located in San Francisco’s Bay Area in California, servicing the semiconductor industry.
He’s also an expert witness in software intellectual property & distribution agreement cases - and a regular listener of The Connections Show. (Scored big kudos with me straight away!)
Dave recently wrote to me, detailing a number of examples of successful business outcomes he’s achieved as a result of using LinkedIn.
Naturally, I invited him to come on The Connections Show and share them with us - so join us for a fascinating & stimulating discussion, as Dave outlines some of the creative and undocumented (but highly effective) strategies he’s been using to good effect.

Thanks Stan & David. Great interview like always.
I did a search myself for “Test Pilot” as i was listening to the podcast and found 421 matches, which proves the value of quantity when you need the quality. Personally i consider super connectors like us that have the quantity a “quality” connection to have, as it is likely to find the quality you may be looking for through them.

I really enjoyed the Connections show with Dave Millman. To demonstrate the power of LinkedIn, even though I currently have fewer than 500 connections, I found 280 Test Pilots in my network.

Very interesting. i was impressed with ways he has used LinkedIn. With the changes in LinkedIn, I now realize that you can’t view the other connection “tree” as discussed at the beginning. Thanks. Lynn

Hi Stan,
It nice to learn through this effort that we Pilots are in demand too and there are so many of us in here too.
Apart from that, Dave’s input is an example of how we can stretch the data to an extent that the owners may not be able to, due to the computing dynamics required.

Great podcast. I thought Dave Millman’s comment on using LinkedIn for “learning” rather than “finding” was a great point, and I’ve blogged about it over on FunWithNetworking.
Maybe the “number of test pilots” test should become the standard measurement of the extent of a LinkedIn network.

Yet another great podcast. I started calling people a few years ago instead of using LinkedIN’s system. I always tell them where I got their name and they are almost always helpful. Keeping with the test pilot theme, I have 249.

Great podcast about undocumented uses for Linkedin. I’ve been on for a year and had only 30 links. In the last month, it’s close to 500 and I am getting some great feedback by spending more time doing what Dave suggested.
